Allergen

We do not offer a comprehensive list of all our ingredients since this would compromise our business interests in regard to other producers. We can however supply information regarding the content of allergens.

We approach the allergen issue with European Union allergen list as our basis. This list includes peanuts, soybeans, almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews, pecan nuts, Brazil nuts, pistachio nuts, macadamia or Queensland nuts and products thereof. From that list we can confirm that we are in compliance with respect to the European Union regulation on allergens (Directive 2003/89/EC).

We can say with confidence that Absolut Vodka(not flavored) does not contain any allergens. This is because the allergens present in the starting material (gluten from wheat) are removed in the distillation step as part of our normal process to make vodka.

For our flavored vodka (e.g. Absolut Citron) it is impossible for us to fully guarantee that the flavor ingredients have not come in contact with any trace of allergens during the suppliers' production processes. We do require allergen free documentation (based on Directive 2003/89/EC) from all flavor suppliers. We do not use any flavours where allergens (e.g. wheat) are declared. Based on this supplier information our vodkas are allergen free.

For extra precaution, our general advice to people who suffer from food allergies is to refrain from consuming flavored vodkas. Instead, we recommend the unflavoured Absolut Vodka for people who want to avoid all risk of coming in contact with any trace of allergens.

  • Dear Dan,

Sorry for the late reply. Due to the seriousness of this question I had to double check with our chemist. I can now confirm that for our non flavoured vodka nothing is added after the distillation and that it does not contain any of these chemicals.

  • I would be in need of allergen lists and additives from all of your products. Regular Vodka to flavored Vodka. I do understand that a comprehensive list of all your ingredients does not compromise with your business interests. I just need a list that shows us all the allergens and additives of your product due to the new European demand to show all allergens and additives of the products that we sell.

  • Dear absolut,
I am a 24 year old man with so many allergies that I haven't even bothered to give alcohol a chance knowing ingredients aren't listed. However, luckily all of my allergies are related to the nut seed and legume family. Knowing there are no tree nuts in your unflavored vodka is very helpful but I was wondering if there are any seeds or legumes (for example bean, lentil, pea, sesame, poppy, etc)- Even if "proteins removed during distillation", I would need to know prior to trying your unflavored vodka because my allergies are so severe that if any of the ingredients used are any seed or any legume, it could mean the hospital for with just trace proteins, or worse., and I really wanted to know because I would love if I could try your products.
    Sincerely,
    Ben.

  • Is the Absolut Vodka (Blue Bottle )Original Vodka - is it not flavored? Is it the sames as the regular vodka that adheres to EU Allergen free?
    Angelica Pierzchala
  • hi, does the unflavored product contain any propylene glycol?

  • Hi,
I am on the FODMAP diet given by the dietician at the hospital. I am not allergic to anything just severely intolerant. So I don't need to avoid things that may have been in contact with allergens, just the things I am intolerant to themselves. I was advised if drinking alcohol to stick to clear spirits and to steer clear of added fruits unless I know what they, as there are some I am not allowed, also to avoid gluten.

I understand the gluten is removed by the distillation process and don't have any issues drinking the non flavoured Vodka. But I would really like to try the Raspberry and the Vanilla flavours. I am allowed raspberries and vanilla. But before I spend £20+ on a bottle, can I just check - is there any added sugars, sweet fruit juices (apart from the raspberry), or syrup after the distillation process?

I am not allowed Fructose, Glucose-fructose syrup, Polyols, Sorbitol, Xylitol, Mannitol - or any other type of tol, Isomalt, Agave, Carob, or Honey. Also no Pear, Apple, Peach, Apricot, Blackberries. There are other things also, but not that I would imagine being in these drinks. I am allowed Glucose (regular sugar).

A complete list is available here: http://www.ibsdiets.org/fodmap-diet/fodmap-food-list/

    Many thanks, Kylie.

  • Your alcolhil is derived from wheat - it has gluten in it - and I question what testing method you have in house that proves you are below the standard ppm. Take this claim off of your website - it’s inaccurate and even tho YOU think it’s safe it is not. Twice I’ve had well- meaning people give me this because of your claim. Take this down

  • Hi Clara

The ingredients for Absolut Vodka are grain (wheat), enzymes, yeast (S. cerevisiae) and water from our own well. For the flavoured versions, only natural ingredients from berries, fruits and spices are used. We have no ingredients in our products that are classified GMO.

The gluten is removed in the production process since the spirit is first fermented and then distilled hundreds of times. We call this continuous distillation, a process so efficient that it eliminates the need for filtration. The crude spirit passes continually through a total of six columns. This gives full control of distillation at every stage and removes all impurities. This strict distillation process separates the gluten in the grain from the alcohol, why it is highly unlikely that any gluten remains in Absolut Vodka.

The question of possible residues of allergens in distilled spirits has been reviewed by the European Food Safety Agency. On the basis of this and other information, the EU Commission concludes that grain used before distillation does not need an allergen warning (Commission Directive 2007/68/EC).

We know allergic reactions can be caused by very small amounts (or even traces) of ingredients. We are not in a position to guarantee that the flavour ingredients have not come into contact with gluten during the suppliers' production processes. Since any medical advice should be given on a personal basis by a medical expert, we can not recommend persons suffering from allergies to consume our flavoured products.

I hope this will answer your question. Please come back if not.

    Best regards,

    Louise Community Manager
