Frozen vodka !?!

I am a Stoli drinker. Always store it in the freezer at -2 degrees Fahrenheit. It never freezes.
Bought a litre of Absolut at Costco, as they didn't have Stoli, and it froze in the same freezer.
Looks like Absolut is watered down.
This is a shame, as it is not an inexpensive vodka.
Looking at the posts it sounds like this is a common, and unacceptable, issue.

  • Dear James,

Thank you for the message. Very sorry to hear about your disappointing experience. Would you ming clarify if the temperature in the freezer might have changed?

The reason why I'm asking is that all 80 proof vodka freezes at a temperature of -24 degrees Celsius (-11,2 degrees Fahrenheit). Sometimes the freezer is a little bit colder than this or the bottle is placed close to a freezer element and it may actually freeze. It is still the same quality when it has melted, just shake the bottle gently!

We don't recommend that you drink the vodka very ice-cold. The perfect serving temperature is aprox 5-8 C. You can of course put the vodka in the freezer, but the colder vodka you have the more flavour and smell is lost.

If you still feel unsure about the quality of your bottle of Absolut, please do not hesitate to contact again and will forward your request to the local representative for review.

    All the best,
    Galya

  • This is the same reply that you give to all reports of your product freezing.
    Kinda obvious

  • Same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. The bottle was frozen solid. I have never had this happen to vodka before. Only one drink was made from that bottle. What's up with the quality? Previous bottles of Absolute have never frozen.

  • Hello,

I purchased a bottle of absolute vodka, and after a few hours of sitting in the freezer, it froze as if it were a bottle of water. I am not sure who to contact about this, but clearly its not suppose to freeze.

  • This is seemingly a bias opinion. If you think about it actually, your comparing vodka from two different countries. There will be obviously some differences in the vodka. I think you should stick to the vodka you feel suited to. Also, I think it is pretty selfish to complain when you have a clear preference.

  • My bottle of absolute froze in NY as well! No way this is supposed to happen, tons of other vodka brands have been in there with no issues at all!

  • I always keep my vodka (Grey Goose, Kettle One, Ciroc) in the freezer and never had a problem until recently. We were having company so we purchased a large bottle of absolut at Costco. I put in the freezer (at the same temp and in the same area where I have stored the others) and the absolut vodka froze (it's not like a slush). Very disappointed and now am stuck with a large bottle of vodka that no one wants to drink (or chew since it is mostly ice).

  • it is now like a slush

  • Hey AM,

There is a possibility that the vodka will freeze when the freezer is a little bit colder than usual. All 80 proof vodka freezes at a temperature of -24 degrees Celsius. The vodka will however remain the same quality once it has melted - it helps to shake the bottle gently.

I wouldn't recommend to drink the vodka very cold. The perfect serving temperature is aprox 5-8 C. You can of course put the vodka in the freezer, but the colder vodka you have the more flavour and smell is lost.

I hope the above information is useful.

    Kind regards,

  • What is the average temperature of a home freezer?

Best Answer: The factory presets your temperatures to the MID / MID setting of 0º for the freezer and 37º for the refrigerator. Refrigerator adjustment range is -15º to +15º in the freezer and 33º to 47º in the refrigerator.

  • This just happened to me. Bought the bottle of absolute at Costco and yesterday I placed it in the freezer, later that night a had a couple drinks and went to bed. This morning I wake up with a horrible headache and buddy aches. I thought it was add because I did not drink that much. This afternoon I looked into the freezer and sure enough the bottle of Absolute was frozen. I also had gin and tequila next to the Absolute bottle but those were ok. I have never ever had this happen before. I'm worried that this bottle maybe adulterated. Absolute is my go to brand Please let us know if this batch will be recalled.

  • I have stopped buying vodka due to the freezing of the bottles. I kept my freezer at 0° F and it still freezes. I don't care about your talk about where my bottle should be in the freezer.. 3 years ago I didn't have a single problem but now I could drink the stuff like water... not happy with what's going on and I'm tired of wasting money on that shit for it to freeze and taste like water. Fix this problem or you may lose alot of business unless the underage drinkers keep buying it because it's cheap and watered down. I'll stick with Jack D.

  • I didn't realise this is a common problem. I just pulled unopened bottle of absolute raspberry from a freezer checked the temperature-18 Celsius, frozen solid...very disappointing.

  • Dear Absolute Team,

You've been giving the same generic response to all your concerned customers across your forum. Your vodka freezes while other vodka brands kept in the same freezer, do not. This is real problem and you are dealing with it in unprofessional way.
May I kindly suggest, you change your focus from marketing department to production process or you will witness your demise. You falling sales should be a first warning sign - be honest, or be gone.

  • Hello, I just took out a frozen Absolut Vodka from a - 12C freezer. It was on top of a Jägermeister bottle and another Absolut Vodka(for 12h together) in the center of the freezer, and the other bottles were completely normal and not frozen.
Really disappointed that Absolut is selling deficit merchandise.
I've attached an image where we are pouring the first shot from the frozen bottle.

    Yours truly,
    Disappointed Estonians

  • Same thing happened to me in South Africa.
Never happened before and other hard liquors in the same freezer do not freeze.
